Sound Biblical Teaching |
We believe the whole of Scripture is from God and therefore able to equip and guide Christian life. Sound biblical teaching is found in looking to God’s Word as the only reliable source of truth about God and His will and purposes, teaching those truths to one another, and using them to guide our thinking and our actions. Sound biblical teaching is not just meant to convey information, but to effect transformation both in what we believe and how we live.
At Shiloh, we value sound biblical teaching through: • Preaching and teaching the entirety of Scripture • Seeking to develop a biblical worldview that speaks to all areas of ministry and life • Allowing the truths of Scripture to inform our thoughts and actions • Discipling and equipping each other to live out what we believe JOHN 8:31-32
31 Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you continue in my word, you really are my disciples. 32 You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. TITUS 2:1
1 But you are to proclaim things consistent with sound teaching. |
Genuine Worship |
Humanity was created to worship God, both for who He is and for what He does. Worship is the act of glorifying God by giving Him praise, adoration, and reverence. Because it is meant to encompass every aspect of our lives, genuine worship is found in dedicating ourselves to glorifying God in everything we say and do.
At Shiloh, we value genuine worship through: • Making worship the primary focus of our Sunday gatherings • Encouraging a sense of awe and reverence for God specifically in the music we sing • Creating times of corporate prayer and encouraging dependence upon and worship of God through prayer • Cultivating a lifestyle of worship that acknowledges God in everything we do PSALM 115:1
1 Not to us, LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory because of your faithful love, because of your truth. JOHN 4:23
23 But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth. Yes, the Father wants such people to worship him. ROMANS 12:1-2
1 Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. |
Honest Community |
Christians should be marked by their fellowship, especially in building loving and caring relationships with each other. This includes encouragement, discipleship, and service, as well as confession and repentance. Honest community is about helping each other to pursue holiness together.
At Shiloh, we value honest community through: • Extending love and grace to each other, both to encourage growth in Christ-likeness (discipleship) and to confront sin • Being open and honest about our areas of need and struggle so we can minister to each other • Praying for each other in times of both joy and sorrow • Spending time together building meaningful relationships JOHN 13:34-35
34 I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” COLOSSIANS 3:12-14
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a grievance against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you are also to forgive. 14 Above all, put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. HEBREWS 5:24-25
24 And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, 25 not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching. |
Intentional Outreach |
The church is meant to proclaim the truth of the Gospel, God’s love in salvation, to the world. The Great Commission is the mission of all followers of Christ, who Himself modelled a heart to reach the “harassed and helpless…sheep without a Shepherd” (Matthew 9:36). Through intentional outreach, our hope is for all people everywhere will experience the joy of salvation through a personal relationship with Christ.
At Shiloh, we value intentional outreach through: • Supporting evangelistic and missional efforts both in our community and around the world • Making connections within our community to provide opportunities to witness • Encouraging a mindset of personal evangelism • Modeling the love of Christ through meeting practical needs as we to point people to their spiritual need for Christ MARK 16:15
15 Then he said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” ROMANS 10:14-15
14 How, then, can they call on him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about him? And how can they hear without a preacher? 15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news. 2 CORINTHIANS 5:20
20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf, “Be reconciled to God.” |
